Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Matthew Baird Architects has been working on a master plan and schematic design for the Philadelphia Salon’s proposed conversion of the 4.5-acre Divine Lorraine Hotel in North Philadelphia into a center for contemporary art. The 110,000sf existing building, currently an urban ruin with rich historic roots, will be stabilized in its present condition, while the main body of the building will receive a radical intervention in the form of a new glass “vessel,” containing gallery spaces, studios, and administrative offices. Later proposed phases of the project include the addition of educational facilities, art storage, housing, and performance spaces.
